What should I bring to my first consultation?

Previous prescriptions and discharge summaries, any hearing tests (audiograms), CT or MRI scans with the films or CD, sleep study reports, and a list of the medicines you take. For a child, bring the vaccination record and any newborn hearing screening report.

Does she offer video consultations?

Follow-up after surgery can be done by phone or video call. A first visit is best in person, because most ENT problems need an examination, often with an endoscope.

Costs and insurance

How much does ENT surgery cost in Gurgaon?

It depends on the operation, the hospital room category and the length of stay. After the consultation you receive a written estimate before you decide. Common operations include tonsil and adenoid removal, sinus surgery (FESS), septoplasty, tympanoplasty, stapedotomy and cochlear implantation. A cochlear implant costs more because the price includes the implant device.

Is health insurance or cashless treatment accepted?

Artemis Hospitals is on the cashless network of many health insurers and TPAs. Share your policy details at the hospital's insurance desk before admission and they will arrange pre-authorisation. Most planned ENT surgeries are covered, while cosmetic procedures usually are not.

Will the surgeon push me into surgery?

No. Most ear, nose and throat problems are treated with medicines first. Surgery is advised only when it will clearly help, and you will hear about every option, including ones without surgery.

Surgery and recovery

How long will I stay in hospital?

Many ENT operations need one night or less. Endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, tonsillectomy and ear surgery usually need an overnight stay, while some procedures are day care. You will be told the expected stay before surgery.

Will there be a visible scar?

Usually not. She works through the ear canal and the nose with endoscopes and microscopes wherever possible. Sinus surgery leaves no cut on the face, and many ear operations need no cut behind the ear.

When can I return to work after sinus or nose surgery?

Most people return to desk work within a week after endoscopic sinus surgery or septoplasty. Avoid heavy lifting, swimming and flying for the period advised at discharge.

Is pulsatile tinnitus treatable?

Often, yes. When the sound beats in time with the pulse, a high-resolution CT scan of the temporal bone can reveal a physical cause such as sigmoid sinus dehiscence, which can be repaired surgically. See the pulsatile tinnitus page.

Who is a candidate for a cochlear implant?

Children and adults with severe to profound hearing loss who do not understand speech clearly with good hearing aids. Assessment includes hearing tests, CT and MRI scans, and counselling. Age alone is not a barrier.

Children

My child snores and breathes through the mouth. Should I worry?

Regular snoring, mouth breathing and restless sleep in a child are often due to enlarged adenoids and tonsils. They can affect sleep, behaviour, school performance and facial growth. An ENT check is worthwhile.

When does a child need grommets?

When fluid behind the eardrum (glue ear) persists for about three months with hearing loss, or when ear infections keep coming back. Grommets are tiny tubes placed in the eardrum in a short day-care procedure.

At what age can a child get a cochlear implant?

Children born with profound deafness can be implanted in infancy, often around one year of age. Earlier implantation gives better speech and language development, so a failed newborn hearing screen should be followed up promptly.

Travelling from abroad

Can I get an opinion before I travel to India?

Yes. Email your reports to trishasrivastava10@gmail.com or call the ENT coordinator on +91 97111 39570. You will receive an opinion and a cost estimate before you decide.

Will the hospital help with my medical visa?

Yes. The Artemis international patient team issues a medical visa invitation letter and helps with airport pickup, nearby accommodation and interpreters.

How long should I plan to stay in India?

It depends on the operation. As a guide, allow about a week for most ear, nose and sinus operations, and longer for a cochlear implant so the device can be switched on before you return. Your plan will include the recommended stay.
